Discovery Phone Call + Package Selection

We always begin with a Discovery Phone Call + Questionnaire.  This allows us to get clear on what your project scope is, lets us learn about your style, and helps us to understand your budget and dreams for your home.

Once we have a good handle on what you’re looking for, we’ll walk you through our process and the service options that are the best fit for your project and budget.

Then, if it feels like a fit for both of us, we can discuss the next steps and get your Style + Ideas Session booked.

Style + Ideas Session

Every project begins with a Style + Ideas Session.   We’ve never met a client whose style could be perfectly defined.  No one is just “modern” or “traditional” or “grandmillennial” or “farmhouse”, so it’s important that we understand what your unique style is.

To do this, we conduct a Style Profile Assessment using images and a carefully crafted series of questions.

Then, we will take what we learned to create a Style Profile and “name + claim” your personal style and send over a Style Report.

If you’re local within Chatham-Kent or Windsor-Essex, we will meet at your home to take measurements and complete your Style Profile.  Outside of these areas, we will meet via Zoom.

Concept Phase (2-4 Weeks)

Once you’ve approved the Style Report and let us know that we’ve nailed your aesthetic down completely, we move into crafting the concept for your home.

The most important things we will work out during concept are:

– The best layout for your furniture, cabinetry plumbing, etc.

– The colour and fabric scheme for the home

– Initial ideas around finish + furnishing selections

Once your concept is complete we will send you a video presentation and walk you through the revisions process.

Sourcing Finishes, Fixtures + Furnishings
(4 weeks)

Once you’ve fallen in love with the concept, it’s time for us to pull together all of the details and then source the hundreds (or even thousands!) of items that will go inside your home.

We have hundreds of brands that we source from that have been vetted for quality, warranty, style and service.

Once all of the pieces for your home are chosen, we prepare a video presentation that includes:

– Photorealistic rendering or 3D drawing so that you can see how the room will look and feel confident moving forward with the design plan

– Pictures, description, specs and measurements for all of the finishes (like flooring, countertops, and paint), fixtures (like plumbing and lighting), and furnishings.

– Your furniture package price reflective of all items chosen.

 CD Digital Design Binder Prep (2 weeks)

If there’s one thing that gets commented on most as a Comfortable Dwelling standout, it’s our Digital Design Binder.

Inside are all of the specs, drawings, measurements, and materials required to pull off an amazing space.

We also include a list of local trades and contractors that you can pass this binder to and know that they’ll do the job well and as planned.

The CD Digital Design Binder includes:

– 3D drawings of each elevation so that everyone knows exactly what the room should look like

– Elevation drawings with accurate measurements for custom cabinetry, art installations, lighting placement, tile layouts, and plumbing placements

– Dimensions and drawings of any custom furniture pieces

– And a finish schedule with a picture, description, quantity and notes on where to buy every finish and fixture needed for the job.

Trade Day

At this point, you have everything needed to simply hand off your Digital Design Binder to someone on our Trade List (or to your own contractor).

That said, some clients want us to help them gather quotes and vet contractors or builders which is why we created the “Trade Day” add-on.

We will host a Trade Day and invite a contractor or trades to your home to discuss the plan with them, gather quotes from them, and make sure they’re up to the job.

Then, we will follow up on those quotes, check the scope quoted for accuracy, and hand everything over to you with a project management schedule so all you need to do is book everyone according to the schedule and pay deposits to the trades.

*This service is in addition to any design package.

Procurement + Project Management

We will handle purchasing, inspection, handling of damages and claims, assembly, and disposal of tracking for all of the furniture, drapery, and decor items needed for your home.

This process is heavily involved — in fact, we have someone full-time who handles only this part of the job!  Spreadsheets are often pages long and our clients are always grateful not to have to deal with this headache.

If you’d also like us to handle project management — that is, scheduling trades and doing site walks — we can add that to your design package for an additional fee.

Styling + Decor

Styling is what makes a project come to life.  A room can look good without styling (like the image above), but it’ll never look great until all of the fine details are in place.

In preparation for your installation, your project Stylist will host a Styling + Starbucks meeting with you virtually where they’ll walk through a number of images with you to get a sense for how you’d like your home to be styled.

Some clients love family photos, others hate being on display.  Ultimately, everyone’s styling preferences are different and our Styling + Starbucks Strategy Session helps us to nail the decor every time.

Delivery, Installation + Reveal

The day has come!  Install day is our busiest of days so we ask that clients are not home during this time so that we can focus on getting every last detail in place.

Our White Glove Delivery Service will place every bit of furniture into your home and arrange it precisely.

Our handyman will install draperies and artwork.

And our Styling team will load shelves, press bedding, and get your place looking magazine-worthy.

Once everything is ready, we will welcome you home for your HGTV-style reveal and walk you through every little detail.

Not every project fits into a neat little package which is why we created the “Designer For A Day” package.

This is our most flexible package that can be used for anything you wish!

Here are some ideas on how your Designer For A Day time:

  • You’re building a home and want to use the time choosing finishes like cabinetry colours, flooring, or tile.
  • You want Heather to come shopping with you to pick her brain on what constitutes quality furnishings and the proper scale for your home so that you avoid costly errors.
  • You’ve recently moved and want help deciding what to keep and what to get rid of.
  • You’re about to tackle a design project and would like some advice.
  • You are considering purchasing a home and would like an Interior Professional’s input before making that decision.

What to Expect from Designer For A Day:

  • This is our least structured offering.  Heather will have off-the-cuff conversations with you to answer your questions and educate you on furniture construction, colour behaviour, timeless versus trendy finishings, layout, or anything you’d like to pick her brain on.
  • Heather will expect you to steer the conversation and have specific questions, design ideas, or stores that you will review and visit together.
  • Heather can also visit your builder’s design center to help you choose finishes for your home.

Paint Colour Consultation

Walk into your local paint store and you’ll find over 1,500 colour choices on average.  That’s enough to be overwhelming to any homeowner.

Choosing the perfect paint colour for your home cannot be done by turning to what colour is most popular on Pinterest these days.  The way colours behave in a home depend on undertone, light source, exposure, and the hard surfaces that you have installed in your home already.

Get your paint colours right and it will set the tone for exactly the look and feel you want.

Get them wrong, and no matter what you do to the space it’ll always look off.

The Colour Consultation is right for you if:

  • You are building or remodelling and want to get your paint colour correct the first time
  • You want a cohesive colour story for your home that flows from one area to the next.

What to expect from our Colour Consultation:

  • After completing your Discovery Call, we will book an appointment to come to your home.  We will be in your home for about 60 minutes.
  • We will begin by assessing the undertones of the existing hard finishes in the space.  Paint colour will bring out the undertones of your flooring, countertops, cabinetry, etc. so this is a vital step in choosing the right colour for your home.
  • We will then assess the lighting and bulbs used throughout the space and what is outside of the windows that may cast reflection in the room and change the colours.
  • Once we have our assessment done, we will narrow colour choices down to just a few and walk the space with you to discuss which is the best option for your walls, trim, and ceiling.
  • Once we’ve determined the perfect colour palette for your home, your designer will craft a detailed report listing the paint colour and codes, manufacturer, and sheen.
  • You’ll also get a coupon code for our favourite local paint supplier and the contact information for our most trusted painting professionals.

Investment:  $125 + HST
*Price is limited to one room for walls, paint and trim.  Additional selections will be charged an another Paint Consultation fee.

Furniture Layout Consultation

The biggest question we receive on a daily basis is “how do I lay out this tricky room“?

The layout of a space defines the flow, function, and feeling of the room making layout one of the most important design decisions!

The Furniture Layout Consultation is right for you if:

  • You are stuck on how to lay out your current furniture in your space and need some help to get it right.
  • You are purchasing new furniture and want some guidance around what pieces and sizing you should buy so that you avoid costly errors.

What to expect from our Furniture Layout Consultation:

  • After completing your Discovery Call, we will book an appointment to come to your home.  The layout consultation will take about 1 hour to complete.
  • We will begin by having a detailed discussion with you about who uses the space, what you do in that room, and what the important pieces are to work into the layout.

Space Planning + 3D Drawing

Our 3D Drawing and Space Planning service will help you take the guesswork out of your next renovation project.

The Space Planning + 3D Drawing Package is right for you if:

  • You want to be able to see what your renovation will look like before hiring contractors and buying materials because you don't want to get it wrong or throw money down the drain.
  • You want to be able to clearly communicate your project scope to your contractor.
  • You need help visualizing how your space plan will come together to maximize the home.

What to expect from our Space Planning + 3D Drawing Package:

  • Accurate measurements of the space
  • Bird's eye view layout
  • A 3D Drawing and walkthrough presentation where you can see your renovation come to life and see ideas for design elements, materials selections, and furnishings.
  • Photos of different elevations throughout the space so that you can communicate the plan with your contractor and trades
  • Presentation meeting with Heather plus one revision

Investment:  Space plans can be done per room, however most clients choose to do an entire floor or an entire home.

Per floor space plans + 3D drawings begin at $2,500.  Full homes begin at $5,000.

Single room Space Plans + 3D Drawings begin at $450.

Renovation Decor Services

Our renovation services are best suited if you are going to be incurring construction costs.  Usually these include kitchen guts, bathrooms, finishing a basement, putting on an addition, or moving walls.

Please note that all drawings provided are conceptual only and not intended for construction.  An engineer’s report and the go-ahead from your contractor is required in order to move interior walls and major systems.

 

Kitchen Concept Plan

  • This plan is for those looking to either gather information or who want to shop their cabinetry around to different shops or Big Box Retaillers.
  • Kitchen projects with custom or semi-custom cabinetry typically range from $40K-$80K+.  With Big Box cabinetry, tile, and countertops the average kitchen project ranges from $20K-$30K+.
  • *Note, for moving or removing walls an engineer’s report is required.  We can secure this for you at your cost for an additional fee, however design work will not begin until the engineer’s report is secured.

  • During a Trade Day we will invite all the required trades or our preferred contractor to review the project and quote for:

  • Installation of plumbing fixtures

  • Step 5: The CD Digital Design Binder
  • Your CD Digital Design Binder will include:
  • A scope of work and collected quotes
  • All key elevation drawings including accurate measurements
  • Lighting plan
  • A shopping list that includes specifications for everything you’ll need in the space so that you can shop it around
  • A list of local trades and contractors that you can pass the digital binder and cabinetry drawings to and know they’ll do the job well and as planned.

  • Trade Day Add-On: We will host a Trade Day to walk through the plan with a contractor or required trades and gather quotes.  Then, we will follow up on those quotes, check the scope quoted for accuracy, and produce a project management schedule so that you can easily call to book your trades or contractor with confidence.  Invesment for Trade Day Add-On is $500 + HST.
  • Project Management Add-On:  We will handle booking trades and do the required project site walks.  Investment is $150 per hour with a 10-hour minimum charge.

Bathroom Plan

A complete bathroom plan down to the very last fine detail
  • Bathroom renovations can be massively complex if you want it just perfect.  This plan gives you everything you need to achieve a stunning bathroom down to the very finest of details.
  • Bathroom projects typically range from $25K-$50K+.  If the client is willing to do work themselves, and/or Big Box basic finishes are used, bathrooms can range from $13K-$25K+.
  • *Note, for moving or removing walls an engineer’s report is required.  We can secure this for you at your cost for an additional fee, however design work will not begin until the engineer’s report is secured.

Not every project fits into a neat little package which is why we created the “Designer For A Day” package.

This is our most flexible package that can be used for anything you wish!

Here are some ideas on how your Designer For A Day time:

  • You’re building a home and want to use the time choosing finishes like cabinetry colours, flooring, or tile.
  • You want Heather to come shopping with you to pick her brain on what constitutes quality furnishings and the proper scale for your home so that you avoid costly errors.
  • You’ve recently moved and want help deciding what to keep and what to get rid of.
  • You’re about to tackle a design project and would like some advice.
  • You are considering purchasing a home and would like an Interior Professional’s input before making that decision.

What to Expect from Designer For A Day:

  • This is our least structured offering.  Heather will have off-the-cuff conversations with you to answer your questions and educate you on furniture construction, colour behaviour, timeless versus trendy finishings, layout, or anything you’d like to pick her brain on.
  • Heather will expect you to steer the conversation and have specific questions, design ideas, or stores that you will review and visit together.
  • Heather can also visit your builder’s design center to help you choose finishes for your home.

Paint Colour Consultation

Walk into your local paint store and you’ll find over 1,500 colour choices on average.  That’s enough to be overwhelming to any homeowner.

Choosing the perfect paint colour for your home cannot be done by turning to what colour is most popular on Pinterest these days.  The way colours behave in a home depend on undertone, light source, exposure, and the hard surfaces that you have installed in your home already.

Get your paint colours right and it will set the tone for exactly the look and feel you want.

Get them wrong, and no matter what you do to the space it’ll always look off.

The Colour Consultation is right for you if:

  • You are building or remodelling and want to get your paint colour correct the first time
  • You want a cohesive colour story for your home that flows from one area to the next.

What to expect from our Colour Consultation:

  • After completing your Discovery Call, we will book an appointment to come to your home.  We will be in your home for about 60 minutes.
  • We will begin by assessing the undertones of the existing hard finishes in the space.  Paint colour will bring out the undertones of your flooring, countertops, cabinetry, etc. so this is a vital step in choosing the right colour for your home.
  • We will then assess the lighting and bulbs used throughout the space and what is outside of the windows that may cast reflection in the room and change the colours.
  • Once we have our assessment done, we will narrow colour choices down to just a few and walk the space with you to discuss which is the best option for your walls, trim, and ceiling.
  • Once we’ve determined the perfect colour palette for your home, your designer will craft a detailed report listing the paint colour and codes, manufacturer, and sheen.
  • You’ll also get a coupon code for our favourite local paint supplier and the contact information for our most trusted painting professionals.

Investment:  $125 + HST
*Price is limited to one room for walls, paint and trim.  Additional selections will be charged an another Paint Consultation fee.

Furniture Layout Consultation

The biggest question we receive on a daily basis is “how do I lay out this tricky room“?

The layout of a space defines the flow, function, and feeling of the room making layout one of the most important design decisions!

The Furniture Layout Consultation is right for you if:

  • You are stuck on how to lay out your current furniture in your space and need some help to get it right.
  • You are purchasing new furniture and want some guidance around what pieces and sizing you should buy so that you avoid costly errors.

What to expect from our Furniture Layout Consultation:

  • After completing your Discovery Call, we will book an appointment to come to your home.  The layout consultation will take about 1 hour to complete.
  • We will begin by having a detailed discussion with you about who uses the space, what you do in that room, and what the important pieces are to work into the layout.
  • We will measure the room and then discuss ways to lay out the room using our measuring tape as a guide so that you can picture where pieces will go.
  • You’ll receive a sheet at the end of the consultation with a hand-drawn furniture layout and notes to consider when making your selections.

Lighting Selection Consultation

Lighting can make or break the design in any space.  It's used for function, ambiance, and for highlighting features in the space.

The Lighting Selection Consultation is right for you if:

  • You are stuck on what size and style of lighting fixtures will work best in your space.
  • You are unsure of how many recessed lights (if any!) you should add to your project.

What to expect from our Lighting Selection Consultation:

  • After completing your Discovery Call, we will book an appointment to come to your home.  The lighting selection consultation will take about 1 hour to complete.
  • We will begin by having a detailed discussion with you about who uses the space, what you do in that room, and what the important features that you want to highlight in the space.
  • We will measure the room and any main furnishings in order to determine the correct size and scale for the fixture.
  • We will take you to some of our favourite lighting fixture sites online and show you options that can work for your space.
  • Within 5 business days we will send you a quote from our trusted lighting partners for the fixtures you selected so that you can easily purchase and move forward on your lighting selections.

The Space Planning + 3D Drawing Package is right for you if:

Investment:  Space plans can be done per room, however most clients choose to do an entire floor or an entire home.

Per floor space plans + 3D drawings begin at $2,500.  Full homes begin at $5,000.

Single room Space Plans + 3D Drawings begin at $450.
